Magnolia Village Council
Regular Meeting September 12, 2018
The regular meeting of Magnolia Village Council was called to order September
12, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Magnolia Village Hall by Mayor Leach. Members
present were: Jim Miller, Claudia Rogers, Eric White and Jessica Miller.
Absent were: Jim Hunter, Grant Downes, Solicitor Kevin L’Hommedieu, and
Worker Matt Hawk. Also present were Clerk Lorrie Clevenger, Chief Jeff Hagar
Board of Public Affairs member Jay Herstine and Kathy Sickafoose.
Visitor: The Board of Public affairs will contract a company to repair and clean
the water tower. This will necessitate draining the tower as work is being done.
Water service will not be disrupted. Water customers will be notified of the time
and duration of the repairs. The Board received a grant for an electric
generator to supply power to the water treatment plant in case of a disruption of
electric power. They will run the wells by a portable generator if electric power
is off.
Minutes: The minutes of the regular meeting of August 8th were approved.
Clerk-Treasurer’s Report
Mayor Leach read the report showing cash balance of $ 393,999.91 in
all funds.
Village Worker Report:
Matt Hawk was absent from the meeting, he has been catching up with
mowing and will do asphalt work this week.
Old Business
The dedication of the new fire station will be held on Sunday September
30th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The public is invited to the dedication.
The station will be open for the afternoon.
Clerk-Treasurer Lorrie Clevenger will formally retire her position after
nearly 28 years at the October 10 th meeting. At that time Kathy
Sickafoose will assume the duties of Village Fiscal officer. Clevenger
will retain her position as Clerk of the Board of Public Affairs.
New Business:
Repairs of the Dodge Police cruiser were approved in the amount of
$1,125.45.
Discussion of the condition of the Park Place, an alley between Plum
and Elson Streets was held. Council will solicit an opinion as to how to
proceed.
Committee Reports
Cemetery: Councilperson Rogers reported $1,525 was received for
services in August.
Utilities: Councilperson Jessica Miller had nothing to report.
Finance: Councilman Jim Miller reported that the tax settlement has
been received from Stark County.
Streets and Alleys: Bids for the resurfacing of North Linwood, South
Linwood and North Elson Streets will be opened at a special meeting
on September 19, at 7:00 p.m.
Parks and Public Buildings: Councilman White reported that one
stump remains to be removed from the trees that were cut down at
the Village park.
Safety: Chief Hager presented the report. He recommended
appointing Ronald Gilbert and James Amendolar as auxiliary police
officers. He also recommended promoting Patrolman Zachery
Vanvoorhis from auxiliary status to a paid position.
Mayor’s Report
Mayor Leach read a thank you note from the Sandy and Beaver Canal
Society for the use of the Village Park and facilities for Canal Days. She
noted especially Council persons Grant Downes, Eric White and Claudia
Rogers for their work.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 following an executive session to discuss
personnel matters.
