Job Description

Update: following the March meeting, Council is accepting applications for both full-time as well as part-time applicants.

Magnolia Village Principle Laborer

Primary Function: Perform various forms of general maintenance on Village buildings and grounds, streets and alleys, parks, and cemetery. Maintain village equipment in good working order. Coordinate work with contractors when necessary. Should be self motivated and comfortable working independently.

Tools and Equipment: Must have working knowledge of the proper use and safe operation of village tools and equipment, i.e. hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, hammers, saws; power tools such as a welder, power saw, pressure washer, leaf blower, snow blower, drill, string trimmer; and motorized equipment such as lawn mower, trucks, and tractors. Must be able to operate a dump truck with snowplow and salt spreader.

Materials: Cleaning supplies, lumber, asphalt, concrete, paint, lawn care products, steel, top soil, sand, gravel, and other supplies as needed. 

Source of Supervision:

Primary – Village Work Coordinator or Designee

Secondary – Magnolia Village Council or Mayor

Occasionally Supervise: Casual laborers, Community Service Workers, and Volunteers

Working Procedure:

  1. Be aware of work needed to be performed. Special emphasis should be placed on street conditions and public safety. Report to and schedule activities with Village Work Coordinator or Designee. 
  2. Mow and trim Village parks, grounds, and cemetery.
  3. Clean and repair streets and alleys, such as sweeping streets, filling potholes, grading alleys, cleaning catch basins, snow removal on Village owned sidewalks, and using snow plow on Village streets and alleys. 
  4. Empty all Village outdoor trash receptacles on a regular basis. 
  5. Cleaning and maintaining of Village buildings, including sweeping, dusting, washing windows, cleaning restrooms. 
  6. Prepare Village park facilities for rental purposes.
  7. Inspect and maintain playground equipment on a regular basis.
  8. Maintain Village tools and equipment according to the schedule provided by the Village Work Coordinator or Designee. 
  9. Maintain and install Village banners and Christmas decorations.

Additional Information:

Normal Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with ½ hour unpaid lunch.

Must be available to work nights and weekends and overtime (primarily for snow events).

Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s Licence.

Will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and background check. Pay negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
